Hongluo Temple

A national 4A level scenic spot located in the north of Huairou, Hongluo Temple combines cultural heritage with natural landscape. The temple’s name derives from the tale of the fairy lady of Luoxian. Hongluo Temple is the birthplace of Northern Buddhism. It is said that what Putuo Temple is in the south Hongluo Temple is in the north. Covering an area of 8 square kilometers, Hongluo Temple includes three Buddhist culture zones, namely Hongluo Temple, Guanyin Temple and Rohan Garden, and two natural landscapes, Hongluo Mountain and Qinglong Mountain.

Hongluo Temple Courtyard is home to twenty-one cultural relics of the Yuan Dynasty. Its Buddhism is expanded and extended by its Chinese culture of emperors, Confucianism and Taoism.

Hongluo Mountain belongs to the Yanshan Mountain System. The west peak is 812.9 meters above sea level and the east peak is 811.9. Hongluo Mountain is a natural shelter of Hongluo Temple, giving it a cool summer and warm winter. The mountain is covered by lush vegetation and is home to a large variety of wild animals. The area of the coleus species is about 4,000 acres. In autumn, the mountain is covered by red autumn leaves dotted with yellow ashes and green pines in g a colorful and layered landscape.

Every April and May, a Peony and Wisteria Festival is held in the temple. A Hongluo Culture Fair is held in the temple every September and October. During each Spring Festival, a Hongluo Temple Fair is held as well.
