Xixian New Area

The Xixian New Area covers all the seven counties and 23 villages, towns and sub-districts of the two cities of Xi’an and Xianyang, Shaanxi province, a total of 882 square kilometers.

In 2002, Shaanxi province proposed the construction concept of “Integration of Xi’an and Xianyang cities (Xixian)”.

In June 2009, the State Council approved the development planning for the Guanzhong - Tianshui Economic Zone, which promoted integration of Xi’an and Xianyang to make Xi’an an international metropolis.

On Feb 21, 2010, Shaanxi established a construction committee office of Xixian New Area and an administrative committee of new areas of Fengwei in Xi’an and Jingwei in Xianyang.

On Feb 20, 2012, the State Council approved the 12th Five-Year plan (2011-2015) of western development, in which Xixian New Area was listed as a key construction project.

On Jan 6, 2014, the State Council approved the area and said it would be built into an important hub of China’s opening to the west, a new engine of development in west China, and an example of new urbanization with Chinese characteristics, which promoted Xixian to the national level.

Advantages

A core region of the Guanzhong - Tianshui Economic Zone, Xixian has multiple advantages for fast development, including a favorable location and economy, abundant education resources and S&T talented personnel, significant historical and cultural heritage, and a great natural environment.

It is influential in the strategy of western development, integration of Xi’an and Xianyang, development of northwest China, construction of Silk Road economic belt and China’s opening to the West.

Also, it has a leading role in exemplifying a new urbanization with Chinese characteristics and improving the mechanisms of urban and rural integrated development.

By 2020, the innovative city development of Xixian New Area will have obvious effects. People’s economic strength, innovative development ability and living standards will be greatly improved. Integrated construction of Xi’an and Xianyang will have made important progress and will be playing an important role in leading northwest development, boosting west area development and constructing the Silk Road Economic Belt.
