Fares on 1,500 Zhuhai buses traveling 135 routes can now be paid using QR codes or UnionPay bank cards, in addition to cash or IC cards. The new payment methods will have been installed on all city buses by the end of June.
Zhuhai Public Transport Group indicated that by May 1 public transportation in the city had entered a new era defined by QR code mobile payment, making Zhuhai a national pioneer in doing so.

WeChat Pay and Alipay, popular mobile pay apps in China, generate QR codes that deduct bus fares upon being scanned. Transport integrated circuit (IC) cards, including Nationwide Yikatong, Lingnan Tong, Zhongshan Tong, and Zhuhai Bus Access Card, are also convenient ways to pay, along with UnionPay cards provided by the largest domestic bank card company.
The pioneering service, introduced at the end of last year, was first offered on 40 buses running on Routes 6, 16, and K11. WeChat developer Tencent, Alipay, and the People's Bank of China (Zhuhai Branch) all supported the change.
