A memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed by the Chinese city of Hohhot, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, and the Mongolian city of Ulaanbaatar on April 27, solidifying future joint tourism ventures.

The MOU was signed by Ai Lihua, vice-chairwoman of Inner Mongolia autonomous region, and Sundui Batbold, mayor of Ulaanbaatar.

“Tourism exchanges between China and Mongolia have expanded recently, with Inner Mongolia receiving nearly 1.7 million visitors from Mongolia over the past two years alone,” Ai Lihua said, also noting Inner Mongolia's intent to develop more high-quality international tourism products and to further establish a bilateral cooperation platform.

Batbold spoke of Ulaanbaatar's commitment to its own development as a major finance and tourism center of Northeast Asia. The conference, he said, was geared toward an exchange of tourism information and experience, and the promotion of Ulaanbaatar's new tourism services and products.

According to Inner Mongolia's tourism bureau, the autonomous region seeks to reaffirm cooperation with Ulaanbaatar in reviving the ancient trade road that once linked China, Mongolia and Russia.
