The environment authority in Hanggin Banner, Ordos, has recently torn down two large chimneys near Hanggin Nur Natural Reserve to protect the migrant birds that stay there, according to a news release by a local media organization.

The chimneys were part of a brick factory that has been left unused for two years due to protection of the reserve.

The dismantling of the two chimneys marked the end of environmental restoration work in the reserve.

So far, four polluting factories have been closed or dismantled in moves to protect the surrounding environment.

Local officials told reporters that they would plant vegetation in the nature reserve after the dismantling work.

Hanggin Nur Natural Reserve is in the northern part of Hanggin Banner, off the southern bank of the Yellow River. It has nearly 500 species of animals and plants, with 30 of the animals being protected.
