In April and May each year, Kubuqi Desert in Ordos goes through a concentrated sand-control and sand-fixing season. This year, nearly 1,000 workers from Inner Mongolia autonomous region and Gansu province join forces to plant trees and control the desertification at Kubuqi Desert.

Kubuqi Desert is China’s seventh-largest desert and the nearest one to Beijing. In recent days, local government and Elion Resources Group Limited – which specializes in adopting biological and ecological techniques to restore desertified, rocky, salinized, alkalized and degraded land –have joined hands in controlling local sandy areas. The sand control and fixing rate has reached 25 percent, according to statistics.

The place has adopted a model of government-led and market-based procedures to encourage companies and individuals to be involved in the desert control project, adhering to the combination of ecological protection and comprehensive management of sand areas.
