Innovation drives Tianjin Binhai New Area's development

Innovation is key to the development of the Tianjin Binhai New Area.

At the Zhongguancun Park in Binhai New Area, a robot is patrolling in a pool, transmitting the scenes underwater to a television.

According to Wei Jiancang, general manager of Tianjin Sublue Ocean Science & Technology -- the company that invented the robot -- the robot can collect 3D images underwater and transfer them to VR devices on the land, which makes it possible for people to experience a real underwater feeling.

The company is one of the intelligent manufacturing enterprises in Binhai New Area and a representative of the Area's focus on the development of advanced technology.

To date, the advanced manufacturing industrial cluster is under construction. The cluster will produce equipment used in various fields including ocean engineering, intelligent manufacturing and railway transportation.

According to the administrative committee of the Area, agglomerate economy, open economy and intelligent economy will be the focuses and the area also plans to form four to five national leading industries and construct two to three national industrial innovation centers to support economic transformation and upgrading.
