Hongshi National Forest Park, located at the foot of Changbai Mountain, covers an area of 28,575 hectares, with a 2,269 hectare water area and 93.2 percent forest coverage.
There are rich water resources and more than 230 wild animals. Visitors can also find over 60 kinds of rare trees and more than 1,200 types of Chinese herbs.
In addition, the park has unique natural scenic views and ancient forest ecology. It also has a Shamanic history.
Several ancient relics are found here, including three tombs, four old hoards, an ancient city and eight temples. Many ancient war heroes of different periods also left their footprints in this forest.
The park area is regarded as the cradle of the Manchu people and many Manchu customs have been inherited there, such as hunting, fishing and picking ginseng.
To date, there are 136 natural spots opened to the public including several lakes, forest hiking routes, and a maple corridor and rime pathway.
