The Port of Zhuhai is ranked 73rd in container throughput among the 110 busiest container ports worldwide, according to renowned French analysis and information provider Alphaliner.
The recently released official rating states that container throughput at Zhuhai ports was 2.27 million TEUs (20-foot equivalent units) in 2017. Its 37.3 percent growth rate was second of all listed global ports and first among major coastal ports in China.
Alphaliner provides port information to liner operators, tonnage providers, marketing research teams, competition analysts, fleet managers, shipbrokers, shipping investors, and port authorities. It states that 2017 cargo throughput in Zhuhai reached 136 million tons, ranking 28th in China, four spots higher than in 2016.
Gantries at work
Last year, Zhuhai Port Holdings seized the opportunity of the city's state-owned-enterprise reengineering and determined to join the world's top 50 ports by 2021. The company devised a range of development strategies for going global, relying on the Xijiang River, establishing a logistics center, and being "smart" and green.
Moving forward, the port will increase competitiveness, expand supply source regions, advance seaport hub construction, and become a significant international port logistics center in South China.
