Spatial requirements for a modern comprehensive hospital in Doumen District West Town Zone A have been set by the Zhuhai Development & Reform Bureau.

Out of 168,830 sq m (41.7 acres) in total floorage, 120,000 sq m (29.7 acres) are above ground. Designated are the emergency, inpatient, outpatient, and medico-technical departments with 1,000 beds. There also will be offices and living quarters for security and administration personnel. Altogether, 113,000 sq m (27.9 acres) will be utilized, including exclusive areas for large-scale medical equipment.

Tracts of 500 sq m (.1 acre), 5,000 sq m (1.2 acres), 1,500 sq m (.4 acres) will be set aside for prevention and healthcare, scientific research, and teaching respectively.

Basement levels with floorage of 48,830 sq m (12.1 acres) will be divided into a 6,600-sq-m (1.6 acres) civil air defense area with a 100-bed emergency hospital and staff-only housing, and parking garage of 42,230 sq m (10.4 acres).

There will be 2,160 parking spaces in all, including 360 above ground. The underground garage will hold 1,800 vehicles, 800 of which will rely on parking lifts. There will be 432 charging posts for new-energy vehicles.

The 108,188-sq m (26.7 acres) medical service complex integrates medical treatment, education, research, and health preservation.

The facility will meet Grade-3 Class-A standards, the highest within the Chinese hospital grading system.

The medical center will be made easily accessible to West Wing urban dwellers, as it is sited south of the Huangyang River and north of Tengyi Road. Once finished, it is to serve all of Zone A's 158,000 residents.

Construction of this medical facility will bring a comprehensive health service system equal to that of the East Wing despite a spending cap of 1.6 billion yuan ($251 million), according to the Development & Reform Bureau. This will lay a foundation for Zhuhai's new all-round development structure within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area national strategy, said an official.
