Inner Mongolia University is the first multi-disciplinary university founded by the Party and the State in areas inhabited by ethnic minorities after the founding of People's Republic of China in 1949.
Based in Hohhot, capital of Inner Mongolia autonomous region, the university begun to enroll foreign students since 1970s and was approved to enroll international students receiving Chinese Government scholarship in 2008.
It has carried out academic exchanges and cooperation with institutions of higher learning from more than 20 countries and regions, including the US, Japan, Canada, Finland, Australia, Mongolia, Russia and South Korea.
More than 1,000 overseas students have studied at the university, including those who gained bachelor, master and doctoral degrees after learning Mongolian and Chinese language there.
The university's College of International Education is responsible for the recruitment and management of foreign students, Mongolian language training and Chinese language preparatory course.
