Cultural events open in Jilin province

A series of cultural events was held in Jilin province during the holidays for the New Year and Spring Festival.

One of the cultural fairs, sponsored by the Jilin Province Department of Culture, was held at Jilin Provincial Library on Feb 6 and 7.

Written by calligraphers from the Jilin Calligraphers Association, the spring festival couplets and the lucky character “Fu” were given as gifts to the local residents at the fair.

"The spring festival couplets and the lucky character 'Fu' were not only written in a beautiful calligraphy, but were also loaded with the festivity and the good wishes of Spring Festival," a local resident said.

At the cultural fair, local residents also had chances to learn about woodblock printing, one of the Four Great Inventions of ancient China.

Activities such as experiencing traditional Chinese paper-cutting and appreciating the fascinating fireworks through VR technology were also included in the fair.

Another two exhibitions were about the folk customs of China’s 56 ethnic groups and the culture of comic strips.
