Sables turn up in Jilin province

More than 40 sables were recently seen at the Xianfeng National Forest Park in Yanbian Korean autonomous prefecture, Jilin province.

Some of them were digging snow holes and some were climbing trees when they were captured by the camera.

Sables are among the first class protection animals in China and inhabits in broadleaf-conifer mixed forests and subarctic coniferous trees at latitudes of 800 to 1,600 meters. Surroundings at the Xianfeng park suits them well with 98 percent forest coverage, fresh air and pure water.

The protection departments in charge of the area has improved its environment management and protection since last year and always reminds visitors and photography enthusiasts not to scare them by keeping far away.

Infrared cameras are also installed in areas where sables often turn up to monitor their healthy lives and prevent them from hunters.

Jiang Jinsong, director of the Jilin Provincial Wild Animal Protection Association's academic office, said "Habitats of the wild animals have been improved since the local government departments started to completely forbid wild hunting, after which the number of mustelid animals like sables have increased."
