Two kilometers (1.25 miles) of pedestrian walkway where Shuiwan Road meets Gongbei Port is being torn up and replaced over the next 20 days.

Demolition and construction started on March 1. Rubble pavement is being substituted with sesame gray granite tiles, according to Zhuhai Jianan Group, the contractor. Some 10 million yuan ($1.6 million) is being spent on the upgrade to improve the cityscape environment.

To reduce impact on traffic, the site has been divided into four sections to undergo construction one at a time. Although there will be no traffic control along the route, passersby should pay attention to safety signs and keep out of construction zones.

All the work is being done in fully enclosed areas.

The site is near Gongbei's Macao Viewing Point at the former southern end of Lovers Avenue. The avenue is being extended along Changsheng Road and Gongbei Port and Zhuhai MRT Station to cross the Changsheng Bridge. Streetscape enhancements and parks are to strengthen Zhuhai's reputation as a "Garden City."
