Festival in celebration of the Chinese New Year

A folk cultural festival took place at the Du Fu Pavilion, one of Changsha's famous scenic attractions, on Jan 27 in celebration of the upcoming Chinese Lunar New Year.

"To celebrate the upcoming Spring Festival, which takes place on Feb 16 and to promote Chinese traditions, we have invited some local calligraphers to inscribe auspicious characters such as fu (meaning good fortune) and other phrases on pieces of red paper," said Chen Yi, general manager of Changsha Chengtou Asset Management Company, the co-organizer.

Calligraphers wrote more than 100 fu characters and 100 plus pairs of spring festival couplets, which will be handed out to visitors and residents.

The festival features a series of cultural activities held in communities and scenic spots across the city.

Large varieties of activities and displays available attracted a large audience and group of participants. Traditional Chinese arts, such as tea art, folk song and dance, paper cutting, and dough figurines culpting, immersed the locals in Chinese traditions. 

Among them were the tea art specialists Wu Ting and Guo Shuiying promoted Chinese culture by performing their craft while briefing the audience on the tea-making process.
