Tongzhou to 'light up' the Grand Canal

Tongzhou will implement the first stage of lighting renovation project of riverside landscape along the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal this year, forge a night tour brand of the Grand Canal and display a charming appearance of the city's subcenter.

The 8.2-km-long first stage of the lighting renovation project starts at a place where five rivers meet, namely Wenyu River, Xiaozhong River, Yunchaojian River, Beiyun River and Tonghui River, in the north and terminates at Caoyun wharf(Water transport wharf) in the south.

The Grand Canal Business district, administration office areas, the Grand Canal Forest Park and the future "city green core" a green landscape including cultural facilities, will all gather at both sides of the section of the canal.

Lighting facilities for night scene will be installed in woodlands, corridors, bike lanes and footpaths on both sides of the canal in 2018, introduced an official from Tongzhou division of Beijing Municipal Commission of City Management.

A professional company will take charge of the color match and represent the Grand Canal's culture, history.

So far, the 8.2-km-long section of the canal has been open to navigation and sightseeing.

It is expected that Tongzhou section, Wuqing section in Tianjin and Xianghe section in Hebei Province will achieve overall navigation in 2020, according to Tongzhou division of Beijing Water Authority.
