Changbai Mountain welcomes visitors to experience winter in NE China

The 12th Changbai Mountain Snow Culture Festival will open on Feb 8 and last until the 18, announced the Information Office of the Jilin Provincial Government at a news conference on Jan 23.

At the conference, Li Yiyang, vice director of the Jilin Changbai Mountain Protection Development Management Committee, introduced this year's festival which will focus on travelling in Changbai Mountain and celebrating Spring Festival.

A total of 13 activities including winter sports such as skiing, snow sculpting and other ice and snow tourism attractions, hot springs, local food tasting and visits to NE China villages are being prepared for visitors.

In addition, a national cross-country skiing competition will be held at Changbai Mountain during the festival. Besides watching the contest, people can ski at the Changbai Mountain Ski Resort and travel through the Scenic Spot by snowmobile.

Li also announced that residents of Jilin province can visit Changbai Mountain Scenic Spot for free by showing their ID card from Feb 1 to April 30.

The festival was initiated in 2006 and is intended to build the town at the foot of Changbai Mountain into an ice and snow wonderland and to promote the tourism industry in the entire Scenic Spot area.
