The development of integrated circuit industry in Shanghai focuses on the processing and design of integrated circuits and guides the investment in the chip manufacturing industry so as to bring about breakthroughs in complete electronic machine products and set integrated circuits as the core role in the electronic information industry.
By 2010, Shanghai IC sales had reached 40 billion US dollars, accounting for 7.2 percent of the international market. Integrated circuits reached 20 percent of the industrial sales in Shanghai. Shanghai's self-developed integrated circuit manufacturing technology reached 0.07 μm with 64Gb DRAM; BGA, μBGA-SP and other PD packages reached 30 percent of the total package volume, and supporting industries were established; MCM was put into industrial production and was applied on products.
By 2015, the IC industry in Shanghai targeted 80 billion U.S. dollars worth of sales, bringing in 112 billion U.S. dollars for related industries, accounting for 8 percent of the international market. IC industry accounts for 27 percent of Shanghai's industrial sales. The IC strives to raise the self-sufficiency rate of autonomous copyright chips to 60 percent and 80 percent, and the design team staff has increased to more than 10,000. The production technology has reached 0.05 micron and 256Gb DRAM. At the same time, the number of cumulative production lines of 8-inch or 12-inch exceeds 30 and the cumulative investment exceeds 100 billion U.S. dollars. BGA, CSP, CSP, μBGA-SP, WSI and other PD-type packages became the mainstream; MCM, SLIM, SOC, WSI were commonly used in system products. Through introducing funds and multi-investment, seven to eight plants with annual output of more than 1 billion packaging were built, and four to five production lines with the main FC technology, with an annual output of more than 100 million were established, making Shanghai the world's largest Integrated circuit manufacturing and processing base.
According to the development plan, Shanghai will form a microelectronic industrial belt mainly in the Pudong New Area with an IC production line; an integrated circuit design base represented by hi-tech parks such as Zhangjiang and Caohejing; a relatively concentrated base for processing and manufacturing, packaging and testing such as Songjiang and Qingpu were built, making Shanghai the center of integrated circuit manufacturing, design and packaging in China, with the largest scale, the highest level, the most complete packages and the largest amount of export.
