Baotou, the largest industrial city of North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region, is expected to produce 30,000 tons of rare earth magnetic materials annually by 2020, according to local media.

As China's leading supplier of rare earths, the city has long been committed to developing its rare earth industry with the Baotou Rare Earth Hi-Tech Zone serving as its base. The city has successfully hosted nine sessions of the rare earth industry forum, boosting its prestige in the industry. There are a total of 106 Baotou-based companies engaged in the rare earth industry at present.

Approved by the State Council in 1992, Baotou Rare Earth High-Tech Industrial Development Zone is the only one of China’s 53 national high-tech zones dedicated to the rare earth industry, and is the only national-level high-tech zone in Inner Mongolia autonomous region.
