Nadam

Nadam is held in North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region on the fourth day of June according to the Chinese lunar calendar. 

Nadam, also known as Nair, is a traditional festival in Inner Mongolia autonomous region that celebrates the harvest. The five-day gala features "the three games of men", which are Mongolian wrestling, horse racing, and archery. 

Kumiss Festival 

Kumiss Festival is a traditional Mongolian festival celebrated in the grassland areas of Xiliin Gol League and Ordos. The one-day event usually falls on a day during the last 10 days of August each year. 

The festival is in celebration of the harvest and features the drinking of kumiss, a traditional beverage of herdsmen in Inner Mongolia autonomous region and across Asia. 

Kumiss is a cool, refreshing drink, only around 1.5 - 3 percent alcohol, so it does not hurt the spleen or stomach, and is considered good for general health and blood circulation and the kidneys, and for relieving muscle tension. 

Aobao Festival

Aobao Festival is a traditional Mongolian festival celebrated from May to August according to the Chinese lunar calendar. 

Originally a landmark for herdsmen navigating the grasslands, Aobao is usually piled with stones, sand and branches. After the time of Genghis Khan, Aobao served as a sacred tomb honoring warriors who died during combat, with the swords or axes of martyrs inserted in the mound’s peak.

Gradually Aobao has become a place for sacrificial offerings where locals pray to the mountain or spirits, as well as their ancestors. People now offer corn, meat, fruit and alcohol at Aobao and pray for good weather, a good harvest and good fortune. 

The China-Mongolia Expo

The first China-Mongolia Expo (CME) was held in Hohhot, capital of Inner Mongolia autonomous region from Oct 23 to 27 in 2015. The expo involved a series of trade negotiations and promotion fairs, industrial forums, cultural performances and art exhibitions.

Recent years have seen China and Mongolia developing an overall strategic partnership, with consensus reached for a China-Mongolia-Russia Economic Corridor interlocking with China's national Belt and Road Initiative and Mongolia's Road of Grasslands policy. The expo aims to promote cooperation in politics, economy, education, health and culture and make a remarkable contribution in taking China-Mongolia friendship to a higher level.

China National Commodity Trade Fair

China National Commodity Trade Fair, established in 2007, is an annual comprehensive trade fair held in Hohhot, capital of North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region, and one of the most influential government-led trade fairs.

With the expanding of scale and influence, the trade fair has been an important platform to showcase the achievements of areas inhabited by minority nationalities. It attracts companies from home and aboard to exhibit commodities and promote projects, providing good opportunities for national commodities to go global.

The Zhaojun Culture Festival

The Zhaojun Culture Festival is held in Hohhot, capital of Inner Mongolia autonomous region, in every year’s July or August. It was initially launched in 1999 and named one of the National 100 Folk Festivals by the National Tourism Administration in 2001. The festival includes dozens of activities about culture and tourism, exhibits and sports events.

Wang Zhaojun or Wang Qiang was a concubine to Emperor Yuandi at a time of hostility between the Hans and the Mongols during the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC – AD 24). She volunteered to serve as an ambassador for peace, leaving the imperial court for the frontier to marry the Mongolian Chanyu, chieftain of the Xiongnu tribe in ancient China. She has always been a symbol of harmony among China's different ethnic groups.

The Ethnic Culture and Art Festival

The first Ethnic Culture and Art Festival was held in 2011 and has become an annual cultural event in Hohhot, capital of North China’s Inner Mongolia autonomous region. 

The festival involves art performances, seminars, exhibitions and other cultural events, demonstrating the artistic characteristics of the cultures of minority ethnic groups.

The festival aims at integrating regional cultural resources and enhancing the cultural self-confidence of ethnic minority groups.
