The Taihu-styled art painting exhibition is being held in the Jiangsu Provincial Museum of Modern Art from Nov 27 to Dec 1.

Sponsored by Jiangsu Provincial Literature and Art League and Wuxi government, the exhibition displays over 100 Chinese paintings, showing typical natural and cultural scenery of Wuxi and the achievements of economic development in Wuxi.

In particular, 80 of the works in the exhibition were selected by experts from public collected paintings. 26 of these works were also from members of Chinese Artists Association and famous artists, including mountains and rivers, flowers and birds, and characters paintings.

Based on Wu culture, Taihu-styled art painting is the general term for paintings in Wuxi, which has a history of 1,800 years.

The major artists of Taihu-styled art painting are Gu Kaizhi, a celebrated painter of the Eastern Jin Dynasty (AD 317-420), Xu Beihong, famous for his horse paintings and Wu Guanzhong, honored as the Van Gogh of China.

The exhibition is designed to be a platform to strengthen art communication and exchange between artists in Wuxi and Jiangsu province, calling on Wuxi artists to grasp the pulse of the times and continue to explore innovations in painting.
