After 13 years' rehabilitation training, including continuous drawing practice over the last three years, Yuan Yubo now possesses basic skills of oil painting.

However, many challenges remain for the 16-year-old boy who was diagnosed with severe autism not too long after his birth in Changchun, capital of Jilin province.

When Zhai Shuxin, a teacher in the rehabilitation center that was treating Yuan, discovered his interest in drawing in 2014, she began to provide painting lessons.

Yuan has finished dozens of oil paintings since then and held a small exhibition at the end of October.

The exhibition gave parents of autistic children great hope that their conditions can be improved through their own endeavors.
