A free automated library was opened to the public in Tongliao, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, on Sept 14. Open 24 hours a day, the library provides local residents a space to read and study all day along.

Built by the Tongliao municipal library and Tongliao trade union, the library contains over 4,000 books in various fields and the books will be updated each quarter or every half year. Some Mongolian-language reading materials are also available.

The automated library is also equipped with computers, e-book reading machines and other digital facilities, bringing convenience to readers in search of information or downloading materials.

“The automated library has broken the limits of time and space for traditional public libraries, said Wang Meng, chief librarian of the Tongliao municipal library. “It is a result of the digital era, and capitalizes on all public resources to enrich the world of local residents.”

During its trial period, the library will open from 9:00 to 22:00, and the organizers will adjust the operating hours according to reader demands.
