City to lift and/or lower West Wing pedestrians

Safe pedestrian crossings will be installed by the city over the next dozen years, especially in urban parts of the West Wing including Fushan and Pingsha new towns -- in all, covering 1,173-sq-m west of the Zhuhai Bridge.

Envisioned is a people-oriented slow-traffic system in the next three to five years, according to the website of the Housing & Urban-Rural Planning & Construction Bureau. And the crossings will remove people from the path of traffic, allowing for a smooth flow of vehicles.

Therefore, this year and next, 12 crossing facilities such as underpasses will be built near schools and hospitals. Between 2020 and 2030, ninety elevated pedestrian crossings will be constructed.

As for the East Wing, 249-km bicycle lanes have been built in Xiangzhou Central Urban Areas, including 71-km main transport corridors, 59-km secondary passageways, 87-km link channels, and 32-km greenways, according to an official from the Zhuhai Urban Utilities & Forestry Bureau.

By 2020, Zhuhai will have 1,500 km of bicycle lanes. With full coverage across the city, bike lane density will have reached the target of 3.15 km/sq km.
