Objects of historic value are being collected by the Zhuhai Museum to display the city's achievements since Reform & Opening-Up was initiated in 1978.

Until the city's 40th anniversary on June 30, 2018 , the library is accepting donations, purchases, and the mandates of private collections. Materials need to tell of remarkable changes and advancement in economic construction, political life, urban development, and social transitions.

Put forward at the 3rd Plenary Session of the 11th Central Committee of Communist Party of China in Dec 1978, Reform & Opening-Up ushered in a historical era. It set the country on the path to modernization and prosperity and crafted the emergence of socialism with Chinese characteristics. The ongoing process has led China and the world through profound changes.

During that year, Zhuhai was among the first national special economic zones to be a window to the outside world. The others are Shenzhen and Shantou in Guangdong, and Xiamen in Fujian Province.

The Publicity Department of the CPC Zhuhai Municipal Committee and Culture, Sports & Tourism Bureau initiated the solicitation and exhibition. They want to comprehensively demonstrate achievements of the great reform and socialist modernization.

The memorabilia will be kept in a themed display area at the new Zhuhai Museum, which is to open at the year's end near Xiangzhou Port on Central Lovers Avenue. They will be part of the provincial collections regarding Reform & Opening-Up.

The range includes manuscripts and documents; pictures, audio and video materials; books and magazines; pamphlets and leaflets; and badges and plaques. Also listed are bills, notes, and securities; folk language; daily necessities; communication tools; and artwork.

In addition, items related to previous national, provincial, and municipal leaderships and other celebrities are being accepted. Evidence of friendly exchanges with Zhuhai is also on the roster. These include objects about interaction with its sister cities, foreigners, ethnic Chinese, overseas Chinese, and Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan compatriots.

Early products of local enterprises will be highlighted along with memorable products, production facilities, and tools. Other items reflecting the process of Zhuhai's historic evolution and humanity history are also on the list.

Donations are most welcomed. According to the organizer, each contributor will be presented with a certificate upon expert appraisal and have their name tagged with the items. Those whose donations have great value will receive extra rewards.

For other owners, an expert assessment will be done for acquisition or trusteeship. Those who want to retain ownership can sign agreements to entrust the museum with temporary custody.
