New vice mayor has China-Latin America experience

Zhu Qingqiao, 49, was elected to the two-year term of vice mayor at the 6th Session of the Standing Committee of the 9th Zhuhai Municipal People's Congress on Aug 22.

The new vice mayor is also director-general of the Department of Latin American & Caribbean Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The department implements China's foreign policy and principles.

As vice mayor, he also will serve as an honorary member of the Standing Committee of the municipal Party Committee, and member of Party Leadership Group.

According to the Zhuhai government's website, Zhu will assist the mayor in government and audit work, and help run the Municipal Auditing Bureau.

Meanwhile, he will preside over work relating to development, reform, grain, major projects, supervision, finance, ports, coastal defense, anti-smuggling, foreign affairs, Hong Kong and Macao matters, state-owned assets, free trade, and bonded zones.

Zhu will take charge of the bureaus of Development & Reform (Grain Bureau), Supervision, Finance, Ports (Coastal Defense & Anti-Smuggling Office), and Foreign Affairs (Hong Kong & Macao Affairs). His oversight also includes the State-Owned Assets Supervision & Administration Commission of the Zhuhai Municipal Government.

Furthermore, he will be responsible for communications with Gongbei Customs, the Entry-Exit Inspection & Quarantine Bureau, Municipal Office of the State Administration of Taxation, and Bureau of Local Taxation.

An ethnic Han, Zhu was born in Wuhan, Hubei Province.
