Putian County Puxian Opera Troupe of Fujian Province

The Putian County Puxian Opera Troupe of Fujian Province was founded in November 1972, formerly known as the Experimental Troupe of Putian County founded in May 1951. Since its founding, the troupe has staged traditional operas such as Escorting Jingniang Home, Hundred-flower Pavilian, Liu Xi Begs for Fire, An Elderly Man Carries An Elderly Lady, Guolao Plants Melons, Ruilan Walks in the Rain and Sanniang Pushes the Millstone. The Troupe has also adapted some operas like Sister Hong, Bright Sunny Days, Azalea Mountain, Panshi Gulf, and Red Clouds. Other operas staged by the troupe include Chuncao Goes to Court, Gao Wenju Legend of the White Snake and Women Generals of the Yang Family.

Its Hundred-flower Pavilion won third prize for performance at the 2ndFujian Provincial Opera Festival. Love in Music won second prize at the East China Regional Opera Festival. Ode to Autumn Wind, a newly created historical opera, won prizes for best play, director, performance and choreographer at the 16th Fujian Opera Festival and first prizes for best play and choreographer, second prize for performance and third prize for director at the National Opera Festival. Among its newly created operas are Shaking Candle Light, Rising Tide, Snow at Tongguan Pass, Jade Flute and Plum Soul and Fanguo News, which have won various awards in the province.

Major artists of the Troupe are second grade performer Lin Jinbiao, second grade director Wu Zhenxun, second grade composer Chen Chengen and first grade playwright Zhou Changfu.
