Zhengzhou Municipal Acrobatic Troupe

The Zhengzhou Municipal Acrobatic Troupe was founded in 1937 on the basis of the Wuqiao Xingwang Circus set up by Dong Shunmian and his wife Hu Guilan.

Throughout the years, the troupe has created many programs that have won prizes both in China and abroad. For example, its Balancing on Chairs won the only gold prize at the 1stNational Acrobatic Contest and Soft-wire Walking the silver prize. Balancing on Chairs also won silver clown award at the 11thMonte Carlo International Circus Festival. Pagoda of Bowls, performed by a brother and sister, won the second prize at the 2ndNational Acrobatic Contest; A Trio Juggling with Feet and Juggling Ladders with Feet won first and second prizes respectively at the 4thNational Acrobatic Contest. Group Bicycling Skills won the Gold Lion Award at the 6thWuqiao International Acrobatic Festival in 1997. Colored Rope and Flying Caps won Gold Lin Award at the 3rdNational Children Acrobatic Contest.

The Troupe has toured the USA, Canada, Yugoslavia, Iceland, Denmark, Japan, France, Singapore, Australia, the United Arab Emirates as well as Hong Kong and Taiwan regions. They were warmly received wherever they visited.

Famous acrobats of the Troupe include Zhang Jie, Yuan Xinwei, Wang Yan, Zhaojiang, Li Mei, Ji Li, Xu Pei, Shao Hua, Sun Xuan, Yu Yin, Xu Shanshang, Yang Chao, Hu Zhaofeng, Huang Haitao, Zhao Jinlong, Zhao Chunkai, Zhao Chunlei, Sun Dianwei, Zhao Yongsheng and Zhao Yongcun.
