The race to decide Zhuhai's most representative calling cards drew a little closer on Aug 14, with the 265 entries whittled down to just 30.

Voting has now begun to select top picks and will remain open until midnight on Sept 1.

The results are said to have come after heated debates and two rounds of balloting during preliminary selection by a panel of humanities and social sciences specialists.

Initiated on July 20, the contest has generated much public engagement, and received recommendations and nominations from districts (including industrial zones), government offices, enterprises, public institutions, and individuals.

Registered projects cover tourist resources, regional landmarks, historic figures and role models, economic and industrial sectors, deeds and events, relics and legacies, and cultural and art items.

Sponsored by the Publicity Department of CPC Zhuhai Municipal Committee and Zhuhai Federation of Social Science Circles, the event aims to discover and promote Zhuhai's cultural and historic resources as well as arouse a sense of identity and confidence among locals, announced a spokesperson.
