Zhaojun Museum, the world’s first museum to exhibit the history of Xiongnu, an alliance of nomadic tribes in ancient China, was completed in Hohhot, capital of the Inner Mongolia autonomous region, on Aug 6.

The 15,000-square-meter museum consists of two pyramid-shaped exhibition halls. From an aerial view, the museum resembles the Chinese character 和, which means peace in English.

Wang Zhaojun, a concubine to Emperor Yuandi of the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 24), volunteered to marry the Xiongnu chieftain to boost ties between the Hans and Xiongnu, who had previously been entangled in border disputes.

The two exhibition halls feature historical relics of Wang Zhaojun and Xiongnu culture, respectively.

The completion of the museum also marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of the Inner Mongolia autonomous region, highlighting the nation's ethnic harmony and unity.
