A landmark structure on the Pearl River Estuary took shape as the main building on West Artificial Island, a crucial link of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai Macao Bridge (HZMB), was topped on July 28.

The 20.2 m high three-story building has a floor area of about 20,000 sq m. It is on one of the man-made islands as part of the Gongbei Tunnel of the bridge link, the other being East Artificial Island. Connecting three tunnel sections, the two structures share resemblance in the shape but have different functions.

The structure incorporates concrete columns, beams, and outer corridors.

Upon completion, the island, mainly encompassing offices, monitoring room, and living quarters will serve the administration of immersed tubes, office, and sightseeing services.
