A pipeline network capable of collecting 90+ percent of wastewater in Jinwan District, the largest of its kind in the Zhuhai West Wing, is well under construction and is to be completed in 2018.

The main pipelines have already been installed at a cost of 500 million yuan ($74 million). Subsidiary conduits and pipelines to households in Sanzao and Hongqi towns still need to be laid, said a Jinwan government official. The entire project is budgeted at 600-million-yuan ($88.9 million).

Zhuhai Water Group Co Ltd was commissioned to invest in, finance, and carry out the work.

The engineering plan calls for 26.9 km of limber passages and renovation of 6.45 km of flood control channels in Hongqi Town, which is expected to be finished in April 2018. The section in Sanzao is pending approval.

Rapid population growth puts great pressure on the urban environment and presents a major challenge for sewage treatment in Jinwan District, the official pointed out. Improvement of major transport infrastructure and economic booms have stimulated urbanization and industrialization. In response, construction and renovation of the sewage pipeline network is of great importance for the area, he added.
