For the second year in a row, air quality in the city of Zhuhai was excellent for all 30 days of June. It again met 100 percent of National Ambient Air Quality standards, ranking first among the country's top 10 cities, according to the Environmental Protection Bureau.

Overall, Zhuhai is fourth in the field of 74 national key cities for air quality so far in 2017, states a report released by the Ministry of Environmental Protection on July 17. Even two years ago, June in Zhuhai was delightfully breathable although not quite at the 100 percent level.

Statistics show a general decrease in the monthly averages of six pollutant indicators in Zhuhai, especially that of Particulate Matter (PM) 2.5 and PM 10, which fell respectively by 9.1 percent and 20 percent from the same period last year.

Following Zhuhai on the list are Zhongshan, Haikou, Shenzhen, Jiangmen, Xiamen, Huizhou, Lhasa, Lishui, and Guiyang.

The 10 cities with the best air quality overall in the first six months are Haikou, Lhasa, Zhoushan, Zhuhai, Huizhou, Lishui, Shenzhen, Fuzhou, Xiamen, and Guiyang.

Air quality in Zhuhai is much improved in past few years, a bureau official stated. The city was honored for superb air purity in air pollution-related examinations carried out by the Guangdong provincial government from 2014 to 2015. It has surpassed other major cities to maintain its position on the top 10 list over the years.

Data analysis also suggests that Zhuhai annually achieves single-month optimal levels of air quality in June and July.
