Skills competition boosts cross-Strait ties

The exchange contest between Taiwan and Chinese mainland helps enhance the cross-Strait relations and hone their skills.

Five candidates from Taiwan crossing the channel came to Guangdong Machinery Technician College, Guangzhou on July 4 to gain an insight into the tools and mindset required for success ahead of the 44th World Skills Competitions, which is scheduled to open in Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arab Emirates, in October.

Taiwan compatriots and their mainland peers will be competing in four different aspects: computer numerical control (CNC) Milling, CNC Turning, Plastic Die Engineering, and Poly-mechanics and Automation, while forming the world's largest vocational skills competition.

The exchange program lasts for ten days, and includes a total of 13 participants, including the candidates fromTaiwan and GMTC students. This information was introduced by Feng Weiyuan, president of Guangdong Machinery Technician College.

This is a warm-up for the prestigious competition in October and offers a good opportunity to exchange experiences and enhance friendly relations for the cross-Strait compatriots, according to Feng.

"This trip to Guangzhou helps grow my confidence in meeting challenges of the 44th World Skills Competitions," said Xu Shaozhi, 20, who comes from Taichung Daijia Industrial Senior High School.
