Jinwan District in Zhuhai generated a total output value of 20 billion yuan ($2.9 billion) in biomedicine last year, nearly two-thirds of the city's total, proving its key role in Guangdong.
The district is home to more than 120 pharmaceutical enterprises such as Ebang Pharmaceutical, By-Health, Livzon Diagnostic, and United Laborites -- leaders in industry development.
An industrial chain of R&D, manufacturing, and logistics has been developed involving bio-pharmaceutical, Chinese medicine preparations, chemical drugs, medical devices, and health-care products.
United Laboratories, located in Sanzao Science & Technology Industrial Park, is a major domestic antibiotics manufacturer with products sold in more than 50 countries and regions. Amoxicillin Capsules the company manufactures have led in the domestic sales market over the past three years.

The company's greatest achievement so far has been completing clinical testing for insulin glargine, according to Cao Jinlai, director of the Biology Research Institute of United Laboratories. They have obtained related production approvals.
Likewise, Livzon is an enterprise integrating R&D, manufacturing and marketing. Its total investment in research, production, and construction is estimated at 4 billion yuan ($585 million) in the next 10 years.
Jinwan has seen vigorous growth in the biomedicine industry over the past five years, reports a government official. In 2016, the industrial output of related enterprises above designated size reached 16.9 billion yuan ($2.5 billion) to account 26 percent of Jinwan's total, increasing from 5.5 billion yuan ($805 million) in 2012.
The district is also building a comprehensive high-end and international biomedicine park with 1.6 billion yuan ($234 million) in total investment. Construction commenced in 2016. Upon completion, it will occupy a floor area of 270,000 sq m and integrate manufacturing, education, research, marketing, and deal with approval submission issues.
The 2017 China Bio Partnering Forum, a globally famous science partnering event, took place in Jinwan from May 31 to June 1. It was the ninth time for the event to be held in China, but the first time in South China, and undertaken by the district.
During the event, 800 enterprise representatives, investors, and consultants from more than 30 countries and regions gathered in Zhuhai to discuss development and cooperation prospects of the pharmaceutical industry for Jinwan and the rest of China.
It has provided a cooperation and exchange venue for pharmaceutical companies in Zhuhai, the government official pointed out.
