Dragon boat race highlights from Guangzhou

Apart from the intensity of the competition, the event also acts a platform for developing exchanges between Guangzhou and the rest of the world.

"Wherever we go, we know a lot of locals are fascinated with dragon boat racing," said Phil Baldly, a rower from athlete from Wellington, New Zealand. "Although I am not very good at using chopsticks," her teammate said. "It doesn't stop my love of Chinese food."

The competition was attended by sizeable waves of spectators, many of which turn up to cheer on the dragon boats every year.

Daniel and his family took his two-year-old daughter to see the racing for the very first time. "Dragon boat racing is not just a tradition, but also great for leading a healthy lifestyle." He said. "It is so energetic and demands great effort."
