Good air, water, and noise quality sustained in Zhuhai

The air and water quality, plus noise level throughout Zhuhai continued to be fine last year, the Environmental Protection Bureau reported on June 5.

Zhuhai ranked eighth among 74 major cities monitored in 2016 by the Ministry of Environmental Protection. Air quality met national Grade-II standards on 94.5 percent of days last year, up 4.5 percentage points over the previous year. The city's residents were blessed with excellent air quality on 178 out of 366 days, accounting for 45.9 percent of the entire year.

The report also shows that offshore areas and main cross sections of rivers including the Qianshan, Huangyang, and the Modaomen all meet requirements for good water quality.

Moreover, the quality of nine centralized drinking water supply sources such as Dajing Mt, Zhuxiandong, Qianwu, and Zhuyin reservoirs, and Guangchang and Pinggang pump stations were rated up to Grade II standards.

The daytime average equivalent sound level from industrial zones, regional environment, and road traffic remained stable. Regional environmental noise decreased by 0.7 decibels from the previous year to 53.2.

The monitoring result of the general daytime environmental noise level in urban areas proved satisfactory, meeting Grade II standards.
