With gaokao, China's university entrance examinations, just around the corner, students at many Guangzhou middle schools have been hosting activities to wish their fellow students well.

Set to take place on June 7-8, the exams can be very stressful for all involved and at the Affiliated Tianhe School of Guangzhou Experimental Middle School more than 2,000 students launched activities on June 2.

The school has traditionally held well-wishing activities every June and typically includes beating drums, releasing balloons, performing lion dances, and hanlou, an activity aimed at cheering up seniors by screaming their best wishes from dormitory buildings.

Guangdong Overseas Chinese High School, Jinshazhou Campus, which will send its first batch of graduates on their way in June, also put on similar activities including hanging banners, sending presents signifying success, and wishing good luck to the seniors.

Moreover, the school canteens also expressed their best wishes to the soon-to-be graduates by cooking delicacies such as rice dumplings and zongzi which bear the figurative meaning of getting good grades in examinations.
