Liu Haiyan, commercial counselor at the Chinese Consulate General in LA; David Reich, deputy director of International Trade at the office of Mayor Eric Garcetti; and the mayor of North Las Vegas, John J Lee, were present along with representatives from over 70 Chinese and American enterprises.
According to Lu, Zhuhai has always focused on trade and cooperation with the US, and inauguration of the Economic & Trade Office shows Zhuhai's determination to further business relationships overseas.
The office also marks a new stage in trade and economic dealings between Zhuhai and Los Angeles, facilitating business cooperation for both sides, she said.
Reich, representing LA authorities, asked that both parties make progress in exchange and cooperation based on the win-win principle.
Statistics show that the US has become Zhuhai's biggest trading partner, second-largest investment destination, and third-largest source of foreign investment. In 2016, total import-export volume between Zhuhai and the US hit $6.7 billion (46 billion yuan). Zhuhai's cumulative paid-in investment in the US reached $1.69 billion (11.6 billion yuan), and Zhuhai absorbed investment of $5.6 billion (38.45 billion yuan) from the US.
