Beijing appreciates Zhuhai's prudent water practices

Zhuhai has been designated one of the eighth-batch National Water-Saving Cities following Shenzhen, which became the first one in Guangdong Province in 2010.

The title was given by the Ministry of Housing & Urban-Rural Development and the National Development & Reform Commission after expert preliminary review, on-site appraisal, comprehensive evaluation, and publicity. In all, 10 cities were granted the title for 2016.

Both departments had issued a document on water pollution control. It stipulated that Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai, Foshan, Dongguan, Zhongshan, and Shunde District of Foshan should meet national water-saving standards by 2019. Prefecture-level cities such as Shantou, Zhanjiang, Chaozhou, and Jieyang should meet the requirements by 2020. In the same year, the utilization quota of urban recycled water within the basin of six rivers (the Tiansha, Duruan, Mayuan, Longxi, Huicheng, and Zishui) is required to exceed 20 percent.
