Quay construction underway on petrochemical project

A quay is being constructed for a Sino-Kuwait petrochemical refinery in Zhanjiang and is scheduled to complete in September.

Wharf engineering is an important part of the project, which is the largest of its kind in China – the entire project finishing in 2020.

So far, 64 of 715 piles have been sunk for the construction of an approach bridge for the berthing of ships, and 50 percent of the cast-in-place concrete piles finished, according to Chen Zixiang, manager for the seawater sub-project.

Another six berths will be constructed to form a fully functional quay, used for loading and unloading coal, heavy items, and liquid chemicals.

"We will make sure we complete the laying of 715 piles in the next four months," Chen said.

Papers have also been submitted for a similar offshore project with matching facilities and a 300,000-ton berth.
