The southern Chinese city of Guangzhou held a nursing skill competition on May 11 to celebrate International Nurses Day the following day.
Co-organized by the Guangzhou Health and Family Planning Commission and Guangzhou Federation of Trade Unions, the competition offers a platform for those nurses to display their skills.
The competition puts nurses, commonly known as "angels in white," in the spotlight, and selected 110 excellent nurses and 33 excellent nursing teams out of more than 1,000 participants.
One of the nurses chosen, Yin Zhufang, who works in a mental hospital, has been working at the hospital for 12 years.
"I was afraid to tell friends that I am a nurse in a mental hospital at first, but now I am so proud of myself," said Yin. "I feel very happy seeing them get better."

The competition also serves as a stimulant to encourage them to offer a quality service in the future.
