The emergency medical team (EMT) at Guangdong Second Provincial Hospital passed a World Health Organization (WHO) exam on May 9, meaning it is capable of carrying out international emergency response for sudden onset disasters.

The medical team, consisting of a group of health professionals (doctors, nurses and paramedics), set up more than 50 tents on the south bank of the Pearl River, occupying an area of 4,900-sqaure meters, to carry out the test.

Serving different purposes, the tents can act as operation and emergency rooms, pharmacies, and even canteens and dormitories.

Apart from advanced medical devices, the medical team also provides ground-based support equipment, enabling the command center to know about treatment and communicate in real time.

To better manage treatment, the team also used identity labels in four different colors: red, yellow, blue and black, with a chip inside recording the patients' healing progress. Tian Zhangjun, leader of the team and director of Guangdong Second Provincial Hospital, demonstrated how the system works during the test.
