Cooling summer beaches

It can get pretty hot and sticky in Guangzhou in summer. Here is a list of beaches in the area where you can take a dip and cool off if the heat gets too much.

Xichong Beach

The largest beach in Shenzhen – Xichong Beach is situated at the southernmost tip of the Dapeng Peninsula facing the Daya Bay. Sitting between two mountains, it draws a great number of hikers who trek up to the peaks to gets the best sea view. It has earned the reputation as one of the eight most beautiful beaches in China. Sanmen Island can also be seen from the beach.

Attractions include snorkeling, holiday villages, surfing, sailing, hotels, golf courses and shopping. Visitors can also enjoy beach volleyball, camping and yachting.

Admission fee: 13 yuan ($1.88) per person

Transportation:

By car: Luosha Road (through Wutongshan Tunnel, 10-yuan toll; or a toll-free winding road around Wutong Mountain)–Yanba Expressway–Kuichong Exit (10-yuan toll)–Pingxi Road–Nanxi Road

By bus: From downtown Shenzhen, take bus360 to Nan'ao Hotel to connect with minibus989. The minibus runs from Nan'ao Hotel to Xichong from 6 am to 5 pm. The whole trip takes about two hours.
