Two sections of the Zhuhai Border Checkpoint of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge have recently earned the Green Building Evaluation Label (China Three Star), a voluntary rating system administered by the Ministry of Housing & Urban-Rural Development.

The green building certification process evaluates land, energy, water, resource/material efficiency, indoor environmental quality, and operational management. Utilized is a rating system with Three-Stars being the highest achievable level.

According to the Zhuhai State-Owned Assets Supervision & Administration Commission, the achievement fills in gaps in city architectural history as the HZMB Zhuhai Border Checkpoint is the first such title owner here.

The certification was attributed to reasonable design and construction that balances public building usages. The land development as well as energy and resource conservation not only beautifies ecological afforestation, but also reduces operations and maintenance costs. The favorable economic and environment benefits rely upon natural lighting and ventilation, passive sunshade, rainwater recycling, and energy efficiency based on interior environmental control of sound, light, temperature, and dampness.

Besides, the construction company, Gree Real Estate, revealed that the Zhuhai Border Checkpoint will be developed into China's first smart port to access Zhuhai's Smart City system in the future.

The evaluation label was issued by the Chinese Society for Urban Studies, which is subordinate to the Ministry of Housing & Urban-Rural Development. Less than 5 percent of newly built domestic projects were certified after passing assessment and acceptance by experts of municipal, provincial, and state-level housing and urban-rural authorities. They meet requirements of 38 standard varieties such as low consumption of land, energy, water, and materials, while caring for the indoor environment.
