A System on Chip (SoC) project launched by Zhuhai Apex Microelectronics earned the Electronic & Information Science & Technology Award of the Chinese Electronic Institute on April 27 in Shijiazhuang, the capital of Hebei Province.
The awards ceremony was held during the 12th China Electronic & Information Technology Conference. Established in 2006, the conference is considered to be the most influential event in the domestic information technology industry.
Apex, Hangzhou C-SKY Microsystems, and Zhejiang University took five years to jointly develop SoC chips for printers. The chips are based on Instruction Set Architecture (ISA) technology applied for Central Processing Units (CPU).

According to a project leader, the technicians have mastered the core technology to mass produce a variety of SoC chips. They have broken the foreign barrier by garnering patents for data verification and correlation, data source, sink and communication, contact recognition, and data storage format.
Last year, Apex Microelectronics sold more than 100 million SoC chips, 80 percent of which went to the overseas market and were applied to HP, Epson, and Samsung printers. It realized batch applications of domestically produced CPU products at the international market.
Apex Microelectronics is headquartered on North Mingzhu Road in Qianshan. It is an inkjet/laserjet cartridge chips manufacturer and systematic solutions provider for imaging supplies. It focuses on patent exploitation and products with proprietary intellectual property rights. Up to December 2016, the company had obtained more than 290 patents globally.
