South China Botanical Garden

The South China Botanical Garden of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, founded in 1929, is one of the nation's most important botanical and ecological research bases.

The garden has a total land area of 300 hectares as well as 6,000 species of introduced tropical and subtropical plants, not to mention the special Magnoliaceae and Zingiberaceae gardens that are on a first class world level.

The garden, a national science popularization and education base and one of the Top Ten Tourism Sites of Guangzhou, is a National 4A Tourism Zone and one of the oldest and largest Chinese botanical gardens. It preserves the most plant species in the country, more than 13,000. There are 30-something theme gardens, including ones for Magnoliaceae, Zingiberaceae, bamboo, orchids, palms and cycads.
