Suzhou Art & Design Technology Institute was initially established in 1958 with the name of Suzhou Art & Design School. Its history could date back to Suzhou School of Art set up by Yan Wenliang, a renowned oil painter and art educator in China, in 1922. In August, 1999, Suzhou Art & Design School was merged with Suzhou Light Industrial Vocational University into Suzhou Art & Design Technology Institute which is one of the first model higher vocational institutions in Jiangsu Province. In 2007, the institute was listed as the first batch of exemplary higher vocational college of Jiangsu Province, and then was listed as national key construction unit of higher vocational colleges in 2011.
