Tianjin Binhai New Area

Tianjin Binhai New Area, located in the eastern coastal area of Tianjin, the intersectional area of the Bohai Sea economic zone and the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei metropolitan area, is the eastern starting point of the Eurasian Continental Bridge.

The area covers 2,270 square meters, and has a 153 km coastline and a 3,000 square meters maritime zone. Binhai New Area has 3 million inhabitants and 21 streets, it also has five functional areas: the Tianjin Economic and Technology Development Area, the Tianjin Free Trade Zone, the Tianjin Binhai Hi-tech Industrial Development Zone, the Dongjiang Free Trade Zone and Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-city.

In October 2005, Tianjin Binhai New Area became part of the National Development Strategy. In May 2006, it was selected as a pilot zone for overall reform, and set development goals and functional orientations. Binhai New Area takes advantage of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei development to serve the Bohai-sea region and to function as the gate to Northern China, a high-end modern manufacturing and R&D research base, and a northern international shipping and logistics center. It prides itself as well on being a livable ecological new city.

The administrative region of Binhai New Area was built at the end of 2009 in one simple department. Then, in 2013, it was reformed under a new management structure.

History 

In September 1995, initial overall planning of Binhai New Area proposed a development model of a port-centric international free trade zone.
In October 1995, Tianjin Airport was named Tianjin Binhai International Airport.

In April 1997, the Tianjin Port EDI Center opened as an important project of the Ninth-Five Year Plan (1996-2000).

In January 2001, the construction of Binhai New Area was listed as one of the "20th Century Events of Tianjin".

On April 26, 2006, the State Council approved promotion of the development of Binhai New Area.

In July 2006, the State Council stressed the urban orientation of Tianjin – it was to become an international port city, the economic center of North China and an ecocity with a prosperous economy, civilized society, perfect facilities and an elegant environment.

On November 9, 2009, Binhai New Area launched reform of its administration system to help it become an economic hub for local development similar to the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone and the Pudong New District of Shanghai.

The State Council approved establishment of the Binhai New Area as a merger of the administrative regions of Tanggu district, Hangu district and Dagang district.

Tianjin Free Trade Zone

Tianjin Free Trade Zone serves as a development zone, a free trade zone and a comprehensive bonded area. The Tianjin Port Free Trade Zone integrates the functions of international trade, international logistics, processing and commodity exhibition and promotion. A1.5-sq-km Logistics Park is located in the zone.

As a special economic area for China's opening-up, Tianjin FTZ enjoys all kinds of preferential policies, especially on customs, taxation and foreign exchange.

The administrative committee of Tianjin FTZ is an agency dispatched by the municipal government and is qualified to approve projects as a provincial-level authority.

The Tianjin Customs, entry-exit inspection and quarantine bureau, foreign exchange administration, Tianjin Municipal Office of State Administration of Taxation, local taxation bureau, public security bureau, procuratorial organ, court and fire fighting authority have all set branches there.

The FTZ has always adhered to the enterprise-oriented principle and devoted to providing first-class services in line with international practices.

There are some 10 world commodities trading markets for oil, automobile, cotton, coal, rare metals and chemical materials.

A group of international trade enterprises like 3M from the US, Germany's Volkswagen, Heidelberg, Japan's Sumitomo, Mitsui, Itou Tada, Toyota, MITSUBISHI as well as Samsung, SK from South Korea have settled in the FTZ.

Dongjiang Port Area

Dongjiang port is located in Tianjin Binhai New Area, a third economic engine in the 21st century after Shenzhen Special Economic Zone and Shanghai Pudong New area.

On Aug 31, 2006, 10-square-kilometer bonded area in Dongjiang Port was approved by the State Council. Ever since, it has become the largest and most open bonded port in China.

The logistics processing area provides standard warehouses for logistics, warehousing, processing and manufacturing, etc. Today, 799,000 square meters of warehouses, 90,000 square meters of low temperature cold storage, and 70,000 square meters of constant temperature and humidity warehouse have been put into use.

Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City

Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City (SSTEC) is a strategic cooperation program between China and Singapore.

As a new highlight of bilateral cooperation after the Suzhou Industrial Park, SSTEC reflects the determination of the governments of China and Singapore in coping with global climate change, strengthening environmental protection, conserving resources and energy, and providind active discussions and examples for building a resource-saving and environment-friendly society.

SSTEC aims to develop the low-carbon, green and circular economy and advocate the promotion of a green lifestyle.

Efforts will be made to build an international cooperation demonstration area, green development demonstration area and a demonstration area of the integration of the industry and the city. SSTEC strives to create a prosperous livable intelligent new city that can be duplicated and promoted.

Tianjin Binhai Hi-Tech Industrial Development Area

Tianjin Binhai High-Tech Industrial Development Area was approved and established in 1988 by the Tianjin CPC Committee and Municipal Government. In 1991, it was among the first batch of high-tech industrial development zones approved by the State Council.

In 2006, the core area of Binhai Science and Technology Park became the first national hi-tech zone co-built by Ministry of Science and Technology and Tianjin Municipal Government. Tianjin Binhai Hi-Tech Industrial Development Area became one of the pilot innovative science and technology parks under the Ministry of Science and Technology in 2009.

The overall planning core area exceeds 300 square kilometers and consists of four core areas: Huayuan Science and Technology Park, Future Technology City · Southern District, Future Science and Technology City · Northern District and Ocean Science and Technology Park.

Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area (TEDA)

Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area (TEDA) is one of the first batch of 14 state-level development zones approved by the State Council on December 6, 1984.

When Deng Xiaoping, chief architect of China's reform and opening up, inspected TEDA in August 1986, he wrote "There is great hope in the zone." After more than thirty years of development, TEDA has the largest economy scale, the highest degree of extroversion and the best comprehensive investment environment among other national development zones in China.

There were 49 state-level economic and technological development zones and five state-level industrial parks by the end of the "Tenth Five-year Plan" period. Among which, TEDA ranked No 1 for 11 consecutive years in the investment environment assessment.

TEDA is surrounded by China's vast north-east and north-west regions. It is close to Northeast Asia and the rapidly emerging Asia-Pacific economic circle. It is an important window and channel for China's opening up.

TEDA is close to the largest international trade port - Tianjin Port and is close to one of China's major air cargo centers - Tianjin Binhai International Airport.
