Taizhou, the "Hometown of Milu", holds a unique distinction: its museum houses the world's only largely intact Neolithic skeleton of a male Milu. After the species vanished from the wild in China in the 20th century, Taizhou took action. In 1996, four Milu were reintroduced to Qinhu Wetland Park, marking the start of the species' journey home. Thanks to scientific management and a protected wetland environment, the population has since rebounded to nearly 200. The revival of this rare animal in its place of origin represents a major conservation success. Taizhou has witnessed Milu's extinction, return, and recovery, living up to its role as a lasting bridge in the species' story.
